N. T. Rama Rao returned to the post of chief minister for his third term, but could continue in office only for a year, owing to his deteriorating health. His closest confidant, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, replaced him as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. Naidu has been praised by British Prime Minister Tony Blair and US President Bill Clinton, both of whom visited Hyderabad during his rule as chief minister. Naidu brought in some radical changes in the state, laying pivotal importance on infrastructural developments in Hyderabad, besides making it an IT hub, employing lakhs of people.
